Olympia Park-director Wilfried Sponk and his sportdirector Sigi Renz can both with good reasons be proud of the peloton they presents for this years 6-days of Munich. 15 teams with about 8 teams deserving to be mentioned as "top-teams"!
Erik Zabel, the glorious winner from Dortmund, is also in Munich, but this time with Silvio Martinello as the in Munich legendary "Franziskaner-team". The winners from Amsterdam and Mexico, Scott McGrory – Matthew Gilmore didn’t start in Dortmund, but here they are. The French World Champions Robert Sassone – Jérôme Neuville, coming from a 2nd place in Grenoble, shall in Munich prove their class in competitions with the very best 6-days specialists. Andreas Kappes – Andreas Beikirch showed us in Dortmund what a powerful team they are together. With Adriano Baffi – Marco Villa you have en very experienced Italian team. Young Dutch boys Robert Slippens – Danny Stam are now very close to deserve to be mentioned among the very best. Jimmi Madsen – Stefan Steinweg might be a combination with dynamite. And last but absolutely not least: For the 10th time in Munich Bruno Risi – Kurt Betschart, winners in Olympia Halle in 1993, 1994, 1997, 1998 and 2000. They are sure chasing the 6th victory in the Bavarian capital, but more than that. The two sympathetic from canton Uri have won by now won 27 6-days together. An amazing figure indeed. But one 6-days team has done better: The legendary German heroes of the past, Gustav Kilian – Heinz Vopel. They won between 1934 and 1951 29 6-days as a team. – We wont to break that record, and we wont to do it already this winter, Risi confirms us.
